5 Tips to Get the Most Out of Online Customer Reviews

“Had to get some decals done for my doors at the office and some business cards, they gave me a really great price and got it done quickly. I will be going back to them for my future needs.”

What else can be done with positive reviews? How can you use them to your advantage?
Here are 5 tips to getting the most out of the praise given to your business.

1. Share on your website and social media

The average consumer reads 10 reviews before feeling like they can trust a business. So putting out your positive reviews for everyone to read can actually help potential customers with their research. This also encourages word-of-mouth marketing. Your website is most likely your highest trafficked online location, so create a section especially for those testimonials.

2. Give your customers the chance to review your service after the job is completed

The best time to reach your customers is just after they’ve received a satisfactory job. This helps because your service is still fresh in their mind and they can describe in detail what makes you stand out from your competitors. A helpful way to earn more reviews for your small business is to send an email after the job is completed—whether it is a day after or a week after is up to you—with a link directly to the review page of your choice.

3. Compare your business to others

Depending on how well your business is doing, this may be a great route to take. By having a page dedicated to comparing the quality of services you provide to the quality that others provide, it gives your website a bit of link juice (since you are linking to your competitors) and puts you on top in the minds of your clientele. Do this only if you are comparing businesses that are doing not as well as yours! Otherwise you would help your competition.

4. Leverage moments of customer happiness

Your client has been waiting a reasonable amount of time and when they see the finished result, it’s a big WOW moment for them. They’re so pleased! Rather than waiting until after the job is completed, use that moment as an opportunity to say, “We’re so glad you’re happy! We took the time to make sure that this is really what you wanted. Can you let others know about your experience? Here’s a quick link for you to do so.”

4. Use referrals as a sign

If a customer comes to your store because another one of your clients recommended you – reach out to that client! A referral is a great sign that you’ve done something right for them, and it’s more than enough of a reason to send them an email with a few links to different review sites so that they can continue doing right by your business.
